Whit, Drew, and I returned to Buenos Aires yesterday after a short trip down to San Carlos de Bariloche. Bariloche is in the mountain region, Patagonia (and is also the “Chocolate Capital of Argentina”).
When we first arrived, it reminded us all of Tahoe - though we learned quickly that it is much more dramatic. The lakes, mountains, and landscapes overall were incredible.

On our first day there, we signed up for a boat excursion that took us out on the lake. The whole trip took about five hours and stopped at the Bosque de Arrayanes and Isla Victoria. There were great views during the whole boat trip - as the mountains jut up right up out of the water. It was an amazingly beautiful day and the weather made both stops very enjoyable.
The next day we rented a car and did driving tour around one of the lakes, up in the mountains. Again, the scenery was incredible. We decided to check out the Hotel Llao Llao, did a small hike to a “Hidden Lake,” and went to the Colonia Suiza, which was kind of strange and completely deserted. We had a good lunch though and made a stop at an Artisan Chocolate maker on the way out. So delicious!

Of course, all three days we ate wonderful food and continued to enjoy the views from our hostel. All the photos from Bariloche are on Flickr.
Sadly, Whit leaves tomorrow - and the following day, I will be heading west to Mendoza with Drew and Dave for a few days prior to leaving for Panama.
