This should be posted somewhere...
Found this old write-up from 2007 buried in my Google Docs. Whit and I had been back from our around the world trip for a couple months and were temporarily living in Oakland. It’s a great story, so I decided it should have a home on the public domain…
One night we came into San Francisco from Oakland so Whit could pick up a hard drive from Hilary’s place in the Inner Richmond. Around...

Farming is Cool
Since I’ve been back from South America, I’ve heard about the Hayes Valley Farm a few times. The farm is the epitome of urban agriculture, located on two city-owned blocks near the US 101 freeway ramp, Fell, and Oak Streets.
The first time I heard of the farm, I was both proud and inspired. San Francisco has been so committed to the environment. Composting is required by law, and the...

Home again
It has been one week since I returned from Panama. The flights were hassle-free and on-time, and arriving back at SFO felt really, really good.
Since I’ve been back and reacquainting with friends and family, the common question has been “How was your trip?” to which I say “It was great, it was all great.”
Then, I get “What was the best part?” or...

My Week in Panama
Since my last post I have been in Panama City, Panama, visiting my dear old friend Hilary. Hilary lives in the El Cangrejo area of Panama City. When I arrived I was completely exhausted from the trip here from Argentina via Chile. I took the day to recover while Hilary and her boyfriend Mike were at work. That evening we went to a pick-up softball game with some teachers Mike works with. Despite...

3 Countries, 24 Hours
Well, I’m sitting here in the airport in Santiago, Chile. But - by the time this gets online, I will be in Panama. Today I will set my own personal record for the earliest I’ve ever been for a flight: 12 hours. I’m about half way through and doing well (thanks to the few hours Dave was still here, the NY Times Magazine, and Scrabble for the iPhone).
This day started in Mendoza, Argentina. Dave...

Last Days in Buenos Aires
Since we’ve been back in Buenos Aires, we’ve done a lot. Really, I should have been blogging every day but that’s just not very likely to happen (obviously).
Anyways, when we got back from Buenos Aires, Dave was here - yay for more friends! That evening we went out for churrascaria (aka loads of meat served off swords at your table plus a giant buffet of veggies, fish, and...

San Carlos de Bariloche
Whit, Drew, and I returned to Buenos Aires yesterday after a short trip down to San Carlos de Bariloche. Bariloche is in the mountain region, Patagonia (and is also the “Chocolate Capital of Argentina”).
When we first arrived, it reminded us all of Tahoe - though we learned quickly that it is much more dramatic. The lakes, mountains, and landscapes overall were incredible.
On our...

La Boca
The past couple days have been quite relaxing - which has been great! The pool has kept us well-occupied, as has cooking a few meals at home and sharing some wine with Katie, Drew’s roommate (also an ex-pat, who just moved here from New York.)
Yesterday we managed to motivate and go explore La Boca - an area on the southeast side of town, and a bit of trek from Palermo. To get there, I got...

A Good Omen (A Drum Show)
Right after I posted the last entry, Drew and I headed out for the evening. We were picked up in a cab by some friends of friends from the East Coast. They had been to a live drum show the week prior that was so good, they had to go again! And, they were completely right in doing so.
The show was great, to say the least. The gig was a group of 14 percussionists on different bongos, snares, etc....
Oh yeah, it's Monday
Yeah, I know, I shouldn’t rub it in like that but I can’t help it.
Today was a good day, and a great start to Buenos Aires. And, it’s only 6:30pm!
I crashed early last night, after a dinner of yummy empanadas from a local panaderia and some wine. Drew and I ate on the 19th floor terrace of their building, where we saw an epic lightning storm move in. The lightning got serious...

I made it!
Twenty-two hours, door-to-door. That was tiring.
But alas, I have arrived.
From the airport in Buenos Aires, I caught a cab to Drew’s apartment in the Palermo area. After a much-needed, glorious shower - I am ready to head out for lunch with Drew. Yay lunch! Yay Drew!

Packing Time
I’ve been thinking about packing, really - I have. Just didn’t put that thought into action yet. So, that’s how I’m spending my last afternoon in San Francisco before flying out tomorrow. Good times, good times.
No, seriously - packing for this trip is a great challenge. After looking up weather in the places I may go, the temperature varies from 19 to 85 degrees...

Gettin' Ready
In about 72 hours I will be en route in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After the six months of traveling that Whit and I did two years ago - a 26 day trip feels like a cakewalk. The flights, the packing, and the travel itself.
Upon arrival in Buenos Aires, I will meet up with a dear friend - Mr. Carlos Andrew d’Avis. Some may say that Drew is “living the dream” - having been abroad...
On the married life...
Just discovered a station on Whit Scott’s Pandora titled “Party in the USA.” Yup, that’s why we’re together.
Food for Thought...
Overall, have to say this asparagus season is disappointing. Going from purple to blue rubber bands is hard to get excited for.
